ControlLogix 5580 (L8 Series)

Despite the availability now of the 5590 L9 Series ControlLogix, the L8 remains the standard choice for most medium to large applications. Only the most demanding projects with large numbers of axes of motion, huge IO counts or high speed processing would justify the L9 for now.

These are the older 1756-L7x controllers, now considered legacy but still widely installed.

👉 These controllers support multiple networks (EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, etc.) and integrated motion, but are now being phased out in favour of newer platforms.
